Chatting with a Person or ChatGPT?

By Dee, 08 November, 2024.

Have you heard about the latest trend of using AI to write replies on dating apps? There’s a popular AI app called ‘Rizz’ designed to help write messages. Over 400,000 Aussies have reportedly tried it out!  Have you?

With ChatGPT and other AI tools gaining popularity, people are using them to craft clever replies, improve their profiles, and even manage entire conversations on dating apps.

There’s no doubt that AI tools can be very useful in helping overcome writer’s block and craft messages.

But here’s the question: are you actually connecting with a real person, or chatbot?  Are you building a connection with a human or Artifical Intelligence?

While apps and AI definitely have their place in the dating landscape, we (of course!) highly recommend our singles dinners to ensure you meet in real life and get to know others properly.

Moving the conversation offline to a real life date is crucial to find out who is behind the screen.

In dating, honesty and authenticity are foundational. This  is why meeting people in person is such a valuable experience.

Plus, what’s better than an evening filled with good company, entertaining conversation, and maybe even a few laughs?

So, here are three key reasons why meeting in person helps find real, lasting connections.

1. Body Language & Real-Life Reactions

In face-to-face conversations, non-verbal cues provide lots of important information. You pick up on facial expressions, gestures and posture - things that often tell you more than words can.

These subtleties help people gauge each other’s emotions and intentions, building trust and understanding along the way.

During the course of an evening you’re able to get to know others over dinner, in a social setting.  The interactions that happen through every conversation help you find out more about each person.

In conversation you can observe how others respond to questions, how they ask questions and how they build connections with you, in real time.

Emotions such as joy, happiness and enthuisiasm are more easily discovered in real life.  As much as we love trading emoticons or abbreviations (IMHO!) - nothing can replicate the feelings sparked by a personal interaction.

At A Table For Six, we believe true chemistry happens face-to-face.  While profiles and photos are a starting point, it's the in-person moments that reveal compatibility and create sparks.

Real connections come to life when people share a meal, exchange stories, and laugh together. The magic of chemistry is found in person.

2. Online Persona vs the Real Person

When people use AI tools to generate responses on dating apps, they might sound more confident, but it often leads to a disconnect between the online persona and the real person.

This can sometimes create a sense of misalignment when they meet in person, as the expectations set by the AI-generated conversations may differ from the real-life interaction.

For instance, someone who seems witty and eloquent online might lack skills in a face-to-face conversation, leading to a feeling of “bait and switch” for their date.

Conversely, when you meet someone in person from the beginning, you have the opportunity to reveal your true self in a way that fosters trust.

Dining events like ‘A Table For Six’ allow for genuine interactions  - what you see is truly what you get.

This kind of authenticity leads to deeper, more honest connections.

3. Shared Experiences Create Lasting Bonds

Dining with someone builds shared moments - memories that both people can look back on, reflect upon, laugh about, or savour.

Whether it’s splitting a favourite dish, listening to a funny story, or even the awkward moment of spilling a drink, these experiences deepen the connection.

The sound of laughter, the experience of good food, and the vibe of the evening can make the night truly memorable.

At A Table For Six, people walk away with real, lasting memories of a lovely evening spent connecting with others.

These shared experiences lay the foundation for genuine connections.

This recent review from a member confirms this:

“There is nothing that replaces a lovely evening with a mixed group of people who are all willing to meet face to face, enjoy a conversation, share stories, enjoy good food and to get to know each other beyond the superficial photos that many dating websites promote in order to choose a prospective partner. A Table for Six provided me with a very safe and thoroughly enjoyable way to potentially meet new friends and in my case, a very wonderful new partner.”

While tools like ChatGPT are undoubtedly changing how we interact on dating apps, they come with some trade-offs. Yes, AI can break the ice, but it often lacks the emotional depth of a face-to-face conversation. Events like A Table For Six remind us of the joy of meeting someone new in real life.

In a world that’s becoming increasingly digital, these real-world experiences are a breath of fresh air, underscoring the importance of genuine, human connectedness - something that no AI, no matter how clever, can fully replace.
