Conversation skills - how important are they?

By Margaret, 23 September, 2013.
You've taken your first amazing step and now your going to your first dinner with A Table for Six on Saturday night. You've decided on your wardrobe, had a fresh hairdo and feeling good about yourself.

Now you're wondering about the conversation at the table. The most important thing is to show interest in the other diners by asking questions. But, it's even more important to listen to their answers and form your next question around the answers they gave. This shows that you are actually listening...that's quiet rare. Talking about yourself is easy, but if you can engage someone else in conversation and make them feel comfortable, you are doing well.

What sort of questions should I ask ?

The best advice is just to be yourself. The more natural the conversation, the better. If it makes you feel more comfortable, prepare a few questions to help get the conversation going. Make them a little more unusual for example ‘What's the best part about your job?’ or ‘What did you want to be when you grew up when you were a child? ’ Remember, if after the dinner you would like to talk some more, request their number and we will follow through for you.

Blessings
